Behind the Stitches: Exploring Fresh Patterns from Lella Boutique

I love the soft colors in all of these quilts. And, I love that Vanessa gives block sizes as well because all of her designs would be adorable pillows or table runners.

Flutter is an oversized throw that can be made with fat eighths and a fat quarter for the accent fabric, making it an ideal pattern to kit. Each butterfly measures 9″ x 13″ if you want to make pillows or a runner as companions. The finished quilt measures 76-1/2″ x 83-1/2″.
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner

Wild Hare is made with two different blocks. The bunnies and the tree blocks each measure 10 1/2″ finished. The entire quilt is 71-1/2″ x 71-1/2″ square. This pattern is also pre-cut friendly.

Love Day is fat-quarter-friendly. Each heart finishes to 6″ x 6″. The entire quilt measures 72-1/2″ x 78-1/2″. Wouldn’t this be a cute border on curtains or a bed skirt? Martha Stewart would be so proud!

This quick and easy quilt is made primarily with jelly rolls.


Iconic is another large throw that is pieced from layer cakes. it is fast, simple, and showcases the darling prints in the fabric!

Judell is a master photographer and this cover has to be my all time favorite. Old Jalopy is a generous 26 x 74 inches and includes 2 different techniques: the pinwheel and the sunburst design.

Thread Gloss with Style and Scent

These thread glosses come in 11 different scents. For instance, the Vacay Blend contains beeswax, coconut oil, and coconut essential oil, so it smells like a warm and sandy vacation.

Thread gloss is a specially formulated wax and oil blend that coats your thread to prevent tangles, fraying, and brittleness. Think of it as a deep conditioner for your thread and embroidery floss. Have you ever had to cut your thread short in the middle of your groove because there was a gnarly knot? Using thread gloss helps prevent tangles and knots, taking away all of the frustration of handwork.

Anytime that you’re dealing with cotton thread such as hand embroidery, hand quilting, cross-stitch, english paper piecing, or applique, give this product a try. Simply drag your thread across the gloss pot after threading your needle, applying slight pressure on the thread with your thumb, while pulling with your other hand.

Now the ever-popular BQ5 quilt by Maple Island Quilts has a baby sister.

Small off-center focus with the flat top pinwheel as the accent. You can use one center fabric like the pumpkins on the cover or many centers like the table runner on the cover. The blocks are smaller than the original BQ5: 9″ and 4 ½” which is why my friend Heide had the great idea for the title BQ5 Encore!

The same blocks can be made in a-4 1/2 or 9-inch size.

Instructions include 2 quilt sizes in the 9″ block size, 27″ x 36″ and 36″ x 45″, or a table runner in the 4 1/2″ block size, 12″ x 48″.

The original pattern includes instructions for 18″ and 13-1/2″ and 6 quilts from wall/crib to queen. What a great pattern to showcase large prints!

Maple Island patterns are up-tempo and slightly contemporary quilt patterns that are fun to stitch and achievable for most skill levels. They often use clever cutting but traditional stitching and quilting techniques.

These are bold looks and clean design lines that allow you to put your own look into the quilt through fabric selection, block rotations, or placement. Maple Island Quilts patterns usually feature multiple sizes of projects and sometimes extra block sizes giving you many options from each pattern.
