New from Brenda Henning

These new patterns by Brenda Henning feature half rectangles and half-square triangles that are trimmed with her two rulers. Signet appears to be an interlocking tile design but it is actually constructed in columns. The quilt is fat-quarter-friendly. .

Prickly Pear is a striking design using bright colors and low-volume background fabrics. The quilt was constructed using multiple 5” strips of bright fabric.

What a perfect choice for a two-color quilt.

Take Flight is a dramatic design of half-rectangle and half-square triangle units that create a murmuration across the quilt. A rich collection of Hoffman Fabrics Indah Batiks paired with low-volume backgrounds makes this an intriguing look.

Hidden Geese is a fun combination of bright scrappy colors paired with a low-volume background. Using both Left and Right Half Rect units flying geese appear in the background as a secondary pattern.

Swallowtail is an intriguing design that creates movement across the quilt.

Pigeon Toes is a compelling design that creates movement across the quilt.

Spin Off is a simple design of half-rectangle and half-square triangle units. The traditional placement of background and dark fabrics is reversed creating a soft contrast.

Flood Waters is a dramatic design of half-rectangle and half-square triangle units that create a cascade of movement across the quilt. A rich rainbow of colors paired with low-volume backgrounds makes this a refreshing look.

Double Dutch is a modern column design certain to draw your eye. The sample quilt was constructed using Hoffman Fabrics Indah Batiks.

Quatrefoil is a stunning design that gives the impression of curves when only straight seams are sewn. The quilt is fat-quarter-friendly.

Spin Cycle is a bright field of pinwheels in a rainbow of colors. Constructed using a collection of 17 fat eighths, Spin Cycle will brighten any corner of your home.

Brenda’s Half Rect Ruler helps you trim precise half-rectangle triangle units quickly and easily. The finished unit is twice as tall as it is wide, a ratio of 2:1. Create seven different size units from 1.5″ x 2.5″ to 4.5″ x 8.5″ – 1in x 2″ to 4″ x 8″ finished size.

Fabric is first cut into rectangles following the chart provided in the written instructions. The rectangles are then sub-cut into triangles using the markings on the Half Rect Ruler. Once sewn the units are easily trimmed to the exact size desired. The Half Rect Ruler eliminates the need to stress about the challenges of sewing a bias seam. Piecing is a breeze and the units are trimmed to perfection.

Create half-square triangles (HST) in multiple sizes using the same tool. Whichever technique is used in the pattern you choose can be completed with this ruler. Instructions show four different ways to sew HSTs. Method 1 – Create eight half-square triangles out of a set of squares. Method 2 – Cut ready-to-sew sets of triangles from strips. Method 3 – Mark and Sew 1/4 inch seam lines. Method 4 – Trim over-sized HSTs to the correct size. Choose the method that works best for you.

The ruler slides easily over the fabric until pressure is applied. Then, our exclusive gripper holds the fabric in place while cutting, eliminating slipping and miss-cuts! It comes with fully illustrated step-by-step instructions or scan the QR Code printed on the ruler to view a video demonstration.
