3 Dog Designs Drama

Carl Hentsch of 3 Dog Designs has several new releases expected next month – and all of them are stunning!

Enchanted Window is a perfect setting for a panel. Just a few companion prints make a nice sized throw. And, since the panel is the focal point – and therefore doesn’t have to be pieced, this can be done in a matter of hours!

Kalani combines two different blocks that form a stunning pattern. The fabric choices make the quilt!

Mai Tai is made of just one block that is rotated to create the pattern.

Juliette is an intricate nosegay block that is pieced so there are no inset points. What a stunning result!

Once again, Carl’s fabric choices make the block design pop!

Gamers Delight!

Toni Smith is a self-proclaimed gamer and has been selling her quilts at conventions for years. She was asked so many times for patterns that she finally bit the bullet and produced her own pattern line.

These patterns are done with a form of paper piecing. Two and three and a half inch strips are sewn together and sub cut to create the characters. The seams are pressed in opposite directions so everything nests perfectly.
These patterns are fairly simple and a great way to introduce children to quilting!

Paper-Piecing with a Little Bit of Whimsey

Super Cute Paper Piecing by Charise Randell is full of charming little projects that provide instant gratification. These little bits of paper-piecing are the perfect foundation for totes, bags, pouches, pillows, and even a small quilt.

Paper-Piecing for Beginners

I have always loved Judy Niemeyer designs but didn’t have the time to make many of her larger projects.  That is why I am loving these smaller ones that showcase one technique and, in some cases, can be done in an afternoon.

My Two Baby Sisters showcases two six inch blocks and a twelve-inch block which use the exact same technique to create this eight pointed star.  What a great class!  Who doesn’t want to learn how to make these blocks without fussing with inset and Y-seams? Additional papers are available because you know these will become go-to gifts.

This Poinsettia design makes piecing circles simple – and at 30″, is the perfect centerpiece for a round table.  Once again, additional papers are available.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fractured Star in an 80″ square.  In Judell’s words:  The Fractured Star was designed as a beginner pattern to introduce quilters paper piecing. The project is fast, uses only 1 foundation block, employs simple cutting techniques, and is an affordable and fun way to jump into your first paper piecing project. It is meant to make those new to the process find confidence, understanding, and success.

Paper-Piecing is Hot

Paper-piecing has become main stream and it is due to designers like Cindi McCracken.  She has shown a new generation of quilters that accuracy and precision are easy to achieve.  Any of her new releases would be great classes to introduce your customers to this technique.

All of the patterns include the paper-piecing foundations and since they are repetitive designs, your students can actually finish an entire block in class.  Each pattern also features an awe factor.

In the Echo table runner, the blocks can be placed horizontally or vertically to create totally different looks.  Have your students complete a block and run color copies of it so they can play with block placement.

Desert Wildflower is set on point – another opportunity for a teachable moment.  And look at the pieced border on Off Kilter – a two for one learning opportunity.  And look how modern Starlight Pathway looks because she created a secondary pattern with the background fabrics.  These patterns are all due in by the end of the month.

For the Book Nerd in Your Life

There are several pics of “book” quilts showing up on Facebook.  And when I say books – take that literally!  For that book lover in your life, why not make them a throw to cuddle under while they read?

This quilt is a simple paper-pieced pattern so everyone will be successful.  Make a nice sized throw or add “books” to create a bed-sized quilt.  Wouldn’t this be great in Tim Holtz fabric?  It is designed to be fat quarter friendly.

I love this quilt because it gives you the perfect opportunity to personalize it.  Write the titles of their favorite books on the binding. Or, write a favorite quote on the cover.  What a great gift for a favorite teacher.  Change up the fabrics to make a perfect masculine version!
