Atkinson Designs Has a Point!

There is a reason that Terry Atkinson is a legend in our industry! She dots all of her “i’s” and crosses all of her “t’s”. When she releases a pattern, you know she has looked at it from every angle and doesn’t release it until she has a winner.

Case in point: Hat Trick Runners. The runner takes only three fat quarters and an accent fabric. Kitting is so easy! Make the individual 60 degree triangles with the Creative Grids 60 degree ruler and choose the layout you like best. Talk about a great class! Who will be able to make just one – especially when they are inspired by their classmates.

Sugar Sand Beach is so clean and crisp – and is made with 2 1/2″ strips. The instructions include four different sizes so you don’t have to do the math. There are also fabric requirements for fat quarters if that works better for you. This quilt is made with the Creative Grids Spiderweb ruler.

Don’t you love the names? These patterns will be arriving soon so add them to your class schedule.

Celebrate Every Holiday

Janine Babich has designed a whole series of”Made in the Hoop” designs. (The three rectangular shapes require a 5 3/4″ x 8″ hoop). What a great display! Check out the awe factors that she adds to every design:

The newest jelly roll rug – rectangle

These jelly roll rugs by R.J. Designs have been so popular that they have added a rectangular version for beginners. This version is created with straight strips and does not require any turning so even novices will be successful!

After all, who can’t sew a straight line??? Once you have mastered the technique of folding the fabric around 2 1/2″ strips of batting, you can move onto their top-selling pattern: See how different it looks in different colorways.

Choose to pre-cut your strips or start with a jelly roll; use batting scraps or buy pre-cut batting strips – the optional companions are listed with each pattern so get started today!

Explore your Inner Child – Part One

It doesn’t matter if you are 6 months or sixty – these critters designed by Vanilla House Designs are sure to make you smile!

Can’t you picture them on the wall of a nursery or child’s bedroom? The focal point of a sunroom?  The backdrop of a playroom? Stretch them over a canvas and they become a work of art – no binding required. These gems are due to arrive this month so order them now.

Paper-Piecing with a Little Bit of Whimsey

Super Cute Paper Piecing by Charise Randell is full of charming little projects that provide instant gratification. These little bits of paper-piecing are the perfect foundation for totes, bags, pouches, pillows, and even a small quilt.

In this case, the projects are so cute, you don’t need any commentary from me:

What a great way to add paper-piecing to your skill set! And, if you already paper-piece, this book is a no-brainer!

Decorate your Door with Style

These are designed as door banners but are great anywhere in your house! I love everything that Stacy West of Buttermilk Basin designs – and with this series, she has outdone herself.

I enlarged one of the patterns so that you can see the details that make each hexie banner so charming.

There are twelve in the series – one for each month – but many can stand alone. May, for instance, spells out SEW; June spells out HOME; and August spells FARM. These are perfect stand alone banners that would be great gifts.

These banners measure 9″ x 23 1/2″ and would be great kitted in the Henry Glass wool line by Stacy herself! These have been so popular that they sell out quickly but a new order is due to arrive this week so order NOW!

Jelly Roll Rugs

This jelly roll rug uses forty-two 2 1/2″ strips to make a 30″ x 44″ area rug.

The pattern isn’t coming in until later this month so I don’t know exactly how it is made but the back of the pattern says you need 100% cotton batting, jean needles, 1200 yards of thread and a sewing machine that will sew a 5mm zigzag stitch.

Remember when these were in every room – and in front of every door – in your house? This pattern is already in the top 20 and it hasn’t even arrived yet. I can see this being a huge hit with all of those ladies that sold the country out of clothesline when they were making baskets! What a great possibility for a great and unusual class!

Capiz Lanterns looks like a modern version of our favorite tree ornament.  It is oh so simple to make with the Oval Always tool by Karla Alexander.

Deb Heatherly creates these ornaments with the 4″ version of the Log Cabin Curvy tool.

And just look at the variety of trees….

Jean Ann created this tree by combining the 8″ log cabin trim tool with the curvy version of the same size.

These trees were all made with a 30-degree angle.
