These organizers by It’s Sew Emma are the perfect gift for everyone – not just quilters! What a great teacher gift. But, if you WANT to give it to a quilter, a lady told me at the show that she uses it to store her machine feet! Now I need another one!

The Fusamats come in several different sizes and are the perfect gift for those who love fused applique. At Market, they showed the perfect companion – a pair of tweezers with a very fine point. Not only were all of these items hot at Market, but I also worked Festival and the Novi show in Michigan – and the consumers agree!

The Creative Grids® Stripology Squared Mini is a definite hit. Everyone loves the size and maneuverability of this baby! Designed to square up blocks up to 6 1/2″, I immediately learned that it is my go-to tool when sub-cutting strip sets. (The acrylic raises over the seams so there is no teeter-tottering like your experience with a traditional ruler.) Plus there are five patterns that support it. Silicone Coasters

Lisa Amundson of Around the Bobbin scored a home run last Market with the release of her Hot Stuff Oven Mitt. The pattern includes the silicon.

But, who can make just one so refills are available.

Quilts of Valor – an Inspiration

What an inspirational story!

In their own words: When the Quilts of Valor Foundation was founded in 2003, its mission was to cover our nation’s military touched by war—that is, to cover them with quilts and honor their service. A volunteer team donate their time and materials to make a quilt collaboratively. Since its beginning, this all-volunteer organization with close to 8,000 members nationwide has awarded more than 200,000 Quilts of Valor. This book explains the history of military quilts since our nation’s beginning, and features a Quilt of Valor to represent each of our 50 states. Also included are 16 quilt patterns to choose from, to inspire you to make your own Quilt of Valor. The organization’s Under Our Wings project, which brings young people into Quilts of Valor and encourages them to learn to sew, is featured, too.

Quilters are truly amazing! Pat yourselves on the back – and order a copy for everyone one of those volunteers who participate!

A Blank Canvas – Literally

I totally missed the boat on this one! I looked at these totes and aprons by Kimberbell and thought they were great for machine embroidery – but didn’t consider all of the other possibilities!

These canvas totes come in natural and denim and are totally finished except for the side seams which are serged! When you are done decorating, just stitch up the sides with a straight seam!

My grandchildren are coming down for “grandma camp” in a few weeks. My idea? We are going to cut pockets from old jeans, pinking the fabric beyond the pocket so we can attach them to the tote easily. They can embellish them any way they want and then we will stitch multiple pockets on each side. We may even add a few to the inside!

Kimberbell has those assortments of adorable trims as well. Adding ribbon to the tops of some of the pockets might be fun too! Who says they have to be just for machine embroidery???

And then I saw these blank aprons in adult and children’s sizes! Craft aprons with multiple pockets? What do you think???

The Perfect Kitchen Accessory

Lisa Amundson of Around the Bobbin has created a designer oven mitt that makes a great class! All you need is two fat quarters, some cotton batting and the pattern – which includes the transparent food grade silicone overlay.

The silicone is designed to withstand temperatures of up to 450 degrees!

Here are a few tips that Lisa shared with us:

It is easy to sew through the silicone – just use a Schmetz Microtex needle 14/90. Since the silicone is sandwiched between two layers of fabric, stitching is a breeze!

When sewing the cuff, the silicone fits over most free arms.  For those of us who don’t have a free arm, it is easiest to turn the oven mitt inside out to do the top-stitching along the cuff.

But who can stop at just one? Refills of the silicone are available:

 

 

 

 

 

 

This pattern has been so popular that Lisa is planning some new releases for Fall Market so teach your customers how to work with the silicone now! I, for one, can’t wait to see what she has in store!
