This one inch center with half inch pineapple strips is the perfect companion to the popular four and six inch log cabin trim tools that were the hit of market.

This Cut Loose Press™ pattern – South Beach Pineapple Treats is the perfect choice for a traditional pineapple setting with  that extra spice added with perfect fabric choices.  It creates the illusion of circles.

CLPJAW049

Swirly Pearly Buttons looks similar to a Snail’s Trail with a lot less work – and once again, it is color placement!  This one reminds me of those all day suckers I used to beg for at the fair!

CLPJAW048

Petite Pineapple Garden features the more traditional black fabric that sets off these happy colors to a tea!

CLPJAW047

Or, you may want to choose this pillow or place mat for a perfect class project that they could actually finish in an afternoon class!

Simply stop after six rounds for a four inch size; add two more for the five inch version; or complete all ten for the six inch version.  As an added bonus, these strips are cut 1 1/4″ wide – half the width of the popular 2 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ ruler.  Therefore you can use that white center line to cut jelly rolls in half and start sewing a multitude of blocks in no time!

Don’t forget the original for those who want a larger size.  It makes 6″; 8″ and 10″ sizes.

You asked – we delivered!

As soon as we developed the Itty Bitty Eights Creative Grids rulers with Lisa Bongean of Primitive Gatherings, we got requests for a bigger size!  And when you talk – we listen!

CGRPRG3

This 5″ by 15″ version is perfect for ALL of your cutting needs – not just when working in miniature.  And the 5″ width is perfect for cutting 5″ charm strips or squares – another request we have heard!

Big quilts and blocks require 1/8 inch cuts as well.  This ruler highlights the 1/8″markings which are hard to use on traditional rulers. The black and white dashed 1/8″ markings show on both light and dark fabrics. Refer to the black diamonds when cutting 1/8″ units; the white diamonds when cutting 1/4″ units.  It can’t get any easier than that!

The 3/16″ marking printed along the length of each side of the ruler are the perfect width for cutting wool bias strips for appliques. One is white and one is black. Choose the line that shows best on your chosen fabric.

Lisa has designed two Cut Loose Press patterns that showcase the features on the Itty Bitty Eights series.  I love combining piecing with applique – the best of both worlds and she does not disappoint!  Or choose this quilt – the perfect baby quilt whether in blues or pinks.  Add flannel for that awe factor!

Don’t forget to include the 6 inch square and 3″ x 7″ version in your display.  Let your customers choose their favorites!

Critters, and Monsters, and Monkeys Oh My!

I was lucky enough to speak and demo at the Shipshewana Quilt Festival right along side of Margaret Travis of Eazy Peazy Quilts.  This woman rocked it!  She sold out of everything!!!  The only thing behind her were empty hooks!

EPQ153   EPQ154 (1)

Her new Zip It Critters and Zip It Monsters patterns were the hit of the show – and are so easy to make with the Bosal eight inch round shapes that are fusible on both sides.  You can make two monsters from each pack.

small_MRS12CIRCLE_01_01

Be sure to order plenty of her other patterns that use these circles as well.  These don’t include zippers so for those who are intimidated by the Z word, these may be a great starting point.  At this class you can remove the intimidation factor by showing how easy it is to incorporate zippers into this project!

EPQ144   EPQ147

Or introduce this technique with one of her Cut Loose Press™ patterns.

CLPMTR011

CLPMTR013

Why not introduce these as a mother/daughter class this summer?  They can learn how to sew zippers; make bias binding; and applique – and finish the project in class!  Hang them from their book bag for a great way to store lunch money or notes that need returned to the teacher!

Log Cabin Cutting Tips

I love, love, love the series of Log Cabin Trim Tools from Creative Grids®.  The width of the strips varies depending on the size – and I didn’t like doing the math when I was cutting out multiple strips!  But then I realized that I didn’t have to!

The eight inch log cabin requires strips to be at least 1 3/4″ wide.  Guess what!  The center white line of the CGR312 or the holes down the center of the Quick Trim Tool are 1 3/4″ away from the edge!  Cut strips to this width – no more math required!
CGRJAW1  CGRMT1The same thing applies to the CGRJAWMN4 – the four inch log cabin trim tool.  The center line of the CGR212 is 1 1/4″ away from the outside edge.  Since that is half the width of a jelly roll strip, I can use this line to cut strips from yardage – or cut 2 1/2″ strips in half.  They don’t have to be perfect because there is a fudge factor built into these trim tools.

CGRJAWMN4   CGR212

Since I have been sharing this tip, about half that buy the tool also buy the companion 3 1/2″ or 2 1/2″ wide rulers.  After all, they are a great size as stand alone rulers as well.

There is tons of support for these rulers.  Check out the companions that appear below each ruler on the Checker website.  Here are a few of the new Cut Loose Press™ patterns that support the four inch version…..

A Classic – The Original Creative Grids Log Cabin

CGRJAW1The original eight inch version of the Creative Grids® Log Cabin Trim Tool by Jean Ann Wright was the beginning of our most popular line of trim tools. I just did a guild tour and was shocked that not one person was familiar with this tool. If you aren’t demonstrating it in your shop, you are flat out loosing sales!

There are lots of books and patterns to support this tool – and it continues to inspire new designs.  These three Cut Loose Press™ patterns are the most recent additions.  LOVE them!!!

Nancy Myers creates a curve effect in these leaf designs by inserting folded squares which are then folded back to curve over the pieced log cabins. Simply brilliant! Doesn’t it make you want to go to the beach?
Cabin Flower uses the same technique – and looks totally different in the purple and pink colorway.
The Rising Star traditional log cabin block is stunning.  It is eighty inches square and is fat quarter friendly.  What a dramatic display quilt. Once your customers have tried this, they will want to try ALL of the trim tools by Jean Ann Wright!

We’re making changes at Cut Loose Press

Cut Loose Press™ patterns are designed for shops to demonstrate products.  They are reasonably priced and are easy projects to showcase tools, notions, and techniques.

For instance, Rainbow Swirls was created with the Creative Grids 6″ Curvy Log Cabin Trim Tool.

Drum roll please!!!!  The minimum order has been changed from twelve to six – which means smaller shops can now participate.  AND, they have added a hang-hole at the top so they can be easily hung for display.  Everything else you loved about CLP stays the same.

For those of you who haven’t tried Cut Loose Press™ (CLP), here is a perfect example of why you should.

This six inch log cabin trim tool designed by Jean Ann Wright is one of a series of trim tools – and is a great demo!  The technique?  The strips for the logs are cut 1/4″ larger than needed.  Each round – which consists of two wide and two narrow logs – are trimmed before the next round is added.  Any variation caused by cutting, sewing and pressing are corrected before the next round is added!  Perfect results every time!

Item #CGRJAW6  Retail $17.95

Now that you have everyone’s attention, why not offer a class immediately after the demo?  Why not offer the class FREE if they buy the tool and kit for Roundabout – this gorgeous tablerunner – another favorite CLP!

Once your customers see how easy it is to create these intricate designs, they will want to do more.  Many of these patterns are fat quarter friendly so it is easy to kit.  If you don’t sell a kit, just return the fat quarters to inventory!  Absolutely no risk!

These patterns also suggest other notions that your customers may want.  For instance, since these are scrappy quilts, a Bitty Buddy by Gypsy Quilter is convenient because it is a tabletop waste basket that collapses to carry to class.

These companion items are listed below each pattern on our website.  The yardage requirements for each pattern are shown on the website as well so you can check out the kitting requirements.  Why not score a trifecta – fabric, notion, and pattern???
