Peppermint Twist (#CLPSCH002) is a darling table runner by Sheila Christensen that features the Creative Grids® Half Sixty ruler. Since you cut a multitude of shapes to create the candies, it is a great choice for a class!

Hearts on the Half Square (#CLPPHA015) was designed by yours truly so I am a little prejudice! It is made with 80 layer cakes. My family calls this the wedding quilt because I have made so many of them for wedding gifts. The hearts are the perfect size for signatures and messages for the honored couple. At 75 x 91 inches, it is the perfect size for cuddling. It also works great as a memory quilt for any event: graduations, anniversaries, babies…

Since this quilt is made with half-square triangles created from ten-inch squares, I used the 15-inch Creative Grids® Seam Guide Tool (#CGRSMN15) to mark the sewing lines. It is specifically designed to span the diagonal of a 10″ square!

Putting the top together is a breeze when all of the half-square triangles are trimmed to the exact same size!

Charmed Hearts (#CLPPHA014) is made with 80 charm squares pieced into offset four-patches. Or, if you make Hearts on the Half-Square – and carefully trim the excess fabric out behind the hearts, you get a twofer!

Since this is made with five inch squares, the 2 1/2″ width of the I love my Quilting Friends ruler (#CGRQF26 )works great to cut the four-patches.

If you like to do handwork, the hearts for both quilts can be appliqued. The Gypsy Quilter Freezer Paper (#TGQFP811H) is recommended. It comes in 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheets so you can trace one page of hearts and run it through a home printer to save tracing time.

But, if you prefer machine embroidery, use Print-N-Fuse (#PNF25). It is also available in 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheets so the hearts can be copied on a home printer. Follow the package instructions to fuse the stabilizer on the back and fuse in place.

Deb Heatherly designed this Hexagon Pillow (#CLPDHE039 )to showcase a favorite print or photo transfer. What a cute, easy project – and a great gift.

A friend of Deb’s made this Hogwarts version – I have some grandchildren who would love this version!

Hootie in Log Cabins

Hootie #CLPLDB007 is the latest in a series of wall hangings designed by Lisa DeBord for Cut Loose Press™ that incorporates log cabin and curvy log cabin blocks. What else can I say when you have this level of cuteness!

Wilmington Prints has a complete line of Essential Gems that come in a multitude of colors – which are the perfect pre-cuts to display with these patterns. Most of the blocks are made with 1 1/4″ strips so these 2 1/2″ strips can be cut in half – a great way to get a variety of fabrics in a colorway!

Why not do a class? Demonstrate and teach the traditional courthouse steps and log cabin blocks (if needed) in one class. Follow up with a class on the curvy log cabin. Need a shop sample? Divide the blocks up between your employees. Since they are all done with the trim tools, all of the blocks will be the same size and the finished blocks will go together beautifully. An added bonus – everyone will know how to use the tools!

Newest Release From Creative Grids

The newest Creative Grids® tool, Kitty Cornered, developed by Deb Heatherly is simply brilliant! It is one of those blocks that I always paper-pieced in the past because I just couldn’t sew those odd angles accurately. Well, not anymore!

Make eleven different sizes of the Kitty Cornered block – two at a time! Cut the odd angles with the tool, then trim them down to size after sewing. Fast, easy and accurate! Make two Kitty Cornered blocks at one time – the printed cutting chart is right on the tool! Create eleven sizes from 1 to 6 inches – and every half inch in between. The ruler comes with fully illustrated step by step instructions or watch the YouTube video to see a demonstration.

And, of course, there are sooo many companions. Daddy’s Ties is a Cut Loose Press™ pattern and is the perfect choice for a memory quilt. I am making this one with a friend who lost her husband a few years ago. We are using his ties – and oxford cloth shirts for the background squares. What an heirloom!

Combining four of the blocks – and sewing them together like a nine-patch creates this stunning quilt – Kitty Cornered Chained. Don’t you love the larger units as accents in the middle border?

I love this Maple Leaf table runner that is cut from 10 – 10″ squares so it is easy to kit for classes! I cut kits for this yesterday and am using a gray background – can’t wait to start sewing!

Aptitude is a full pattern that includes instructions for a lap as well as a queen sized quilt. This pattern uses the Creative Grids® CGRDH2 Strippy Stars Tool and the CGRDH5 Kitty Cornered Tool. Fabric selection is easy! Just choose a background and two additional contrasting colors.

Waddles

Just the name makes me smile! He is the cutest little penguin to grace the South Pole! Waddles #CLPLDB004 From Cut Loose Press™ by Lisa DeBord.

He is the perfect companion for Noggins #CLPLDB003 from Cut Loose Press™ by Lisa DeBord.

Both are made with the Creative Grids® four-inch curvy and four-inch log cabin trim tools.

Why not bundle some fabrics together that would work great in these quilts? These make a great class. Let them choose either pattern since they share all of the same blocks – but we know they will want to make both!

Teach them how to make a traditional log cabin and complete the blocks as homework. Then, you can move on to Courthouse Steps and Curvy log cabins. If you start now, these guys could be ready to hang by Christmas!

Sixty-degree Angles Just Got a WHOLE Lot Easier!

Designing quilts with sixty-degree angles just got a WHOLE lot easier with the introduction of Sheila Christensen’s Creative Grids® Half Sixty ruler.

This tool is the perfect companion to the Creative Grids® 80-degree rulers. Since it is 12-1/2″, it works with both. Sew the straight side to create pieced 60-degree units; sew the angles side to create pieced rectangles. It is really that easy!

Just look at the possibilities! This Cut Loose Press™ pattern – Pinwheel Hexagons #CLPSCH001- is a great beginner class. Sixty-degree triangles are pieced from two half sixties and then squared up to create blocks with half sixties. How simple and easy is that!

But this is NOT a one-trick pony! Look at just some of the possibilities! Who would ever think that they were all created with the same tool!

Christmas All Year Round

I just love this guy! Noggin #CLPLDB003 is a Cut Loose Press™ pattern made with two different Creative Grids® rulers. I already have mine cut out!

Most of the strips are cut to 1 1/4″ – half the width of a jelly roll so it is a great stash buster as well.

You need the four-inch Creative Grids® Log Cabin Trim Tool…

and the four-inch Creative Grids® Curvy Log Cabin Trim Tool.

The pattern features three different versions of log cabins – log cabins, courthouse steps, and curvy log cabins. What a great series of classes.

Coffee for Christmas

Coffee Break from Cut Loose Press™ by Karla Alexander is so much fun to make! I got out my Fiestaware and started throwing out fabrics that coordinated. It turns out, I couldn’t stop at a table runner. They are just way too much fun – and I am a little OCD…

So what is a gal to do? Make 35 more and turn them into mug rugs for gifts for coaches, teachers, principals….you get the picture. And, if you have a good relationship with your machine quilter, she may even add their names.

But, I live in Ohio – and they are #1 so…..

These individual cups measure approximately 8″ so I cut an 8″ square of fabric, folded it in half, and used it as a pocket on the back. I’ll put coffee gift cards in the pocket as a homage to Karla. After all, she lives in the Pacific Northwest and KNOWS good coffee!

You still have time to finish six or six dozen by Christmas so get started!

Sometimes Bigger IS Better

The Creative Grids® Stripology XL combines all of the features you love in the original Stripology ruler AND the Stripology Squared. This beauty combines the height of the Stripology Squared – so you can square up blocks up to 12-1/2in – with the width of the original Stripology so you can cut up to eight 2-1/2in strips or 14 1-1/2in strips without ever moving the tool, reducing your rotary cutting time by up to 75 percent. The 2½ inch increments are marked with squares; the 1½ inch increments are marked with stars – no math required!

Need to cut in 1/4 inch increments? No problem, just follow the chart included in the instructions and use the 1/4 inch line on the ruler. We have added additional bells and whistles as well. There are 60-degree lines as well as 45-degree lines; 1/2in lines; and additional markings to aid in cutting perfect triangles every time. I can’t wait to make it! Actually, I want to design my dinette around this. Can you imagine covering a cornice board with these and framing individual ones for the wall? Of course, I’ll make the table runner too – but who can stop there when they are so darn cute?????
