Batiks at their Finest

We just picked up this pattern line by Janine Burke of Designs by JB and I am totally impressed!  These highly graphic quilts are not only striking, they are a great study in color play!

Whisper is all done in shades of gray and black – but look how the light fabrics make the quilt glow.  It looks like there is light showing through from within.BUS2540

Now look what happens with the same color pallette when she adds touches of color in A Bit Askew.

Or, add blue to that field of gray.  The light shades are once again placed toward the top of the quilt to add a feel of light.

But shades of gray is not her only color palette.  Modern Thinking and Athena’s Puzzle look like they were created from the same fabrics as well.  Wouldn’t this be a great combination on bunk beds?  Each would have their own quilt – but everything would coordinate beautifully.

Wouldn’t these be great hanging on a wall???  They are 40″ wide so the backing does not have to be pieced.  They are 12″ wide so they are really reasonable to kit.  Many include button packs that add the awe factor.

Display them on a wall with the kits below them.  The kits – including pattern – will be very reasonable.  Why not take it a step further and offer it as a BOM mailing program?  We are entering travel season so visitors can sign up to receive a kit a month in their mailbox!  How fun is that??? 

Creating Mini’s with Proven Techniques

I love everything by Lynne Hagmeier.  Fall is my favorite season and her color pallette sings to this Midwest gal!  Her latest books feature these tones – but would translate into your favorite color tones as well.

Frankly, I was always intimidated by Annie Unrein’s patterns.  After all, I saw the samples – and they were perfect.  She is an expert seamstress and teaches threadology classes.  I bet she even makes tailored clothes!

But then, I saw her demonstrate at Road to California – and she made it look so simple that I thought I should give it a try.

As soon as I got home, I ordered her iCases pattern.  This one has a zippered pocket to hold the cord and has instructions for two sizes – exactly what I needed.PBA218 Item #PBA218  Retail $9.95

Annie has created a technique that makes all of her bags doable by anyone – even me!  It turns out that you create everything in panels.  Then the panels are placed on top of each other and bound together like a quilt – now that I can do.

And I did!  And now, I feel like my last name should be Bradley.  Friends came over last night and thought I bought my first project.  I consider that a win!
